Identification:
Light to dark olive dorsal. Becoming white ventrally;
light bean-shaped horizontal
markings dispersed in oblique
rows on sides; vertical fins commonly orange-yellow. Young northern
pike (under 279 mm) with oblique dark bars. Young solid black-green
on back, contrasted with cream-colored
stripe on back of muskie lunge
fingerling.
Fishing Methods:
The northern pike is generally common and will hit about anything
that moves and will fit in its mouth. Larger fish could snap weaker
pound test lines as this fish can have a powerful pull and plenty of
teeth. |
